Ukrainian citizens, who are being illegally detained in the territories of Russia and occupied Crimea, were not provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) after the quarantine was introduced, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova has said following a meeting with the detainees’ relatives.

“I have held an online meeting with the mothers and wives of the 26 Crimean Tatars, who are being illegally detained in the territories of Russia and temporarily occupied Crimea. During the meeting they said that health conditions of their relatives is getting worse day after day, some are in critical condition. The conditions in the detention facilities are inhuman… The relatives confirmed that our citizens were not provided with personal protective equipment after the quarantine was announced,” she said on Facebook on April 28.

She also said that the majority of illegally detained Crimean Tatars are suffering from moral and psychological pressure.

Denisova said she would recommend the Ukrainian side engaged in the prisoner exchange talks to keep in touch with the families and inform them on progress in the negotiation process.
