You're reading: Ukrainians undergoing treatment in Belarus can stay on country’s territory

Citizens of Ukraine who are undergoing treatment in Belarus can stay there as long as necessary in order to receive the necessary care and undergo procedures, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Enin said on the air of the Ukraine 24 television channel on May 29.

Answering a question about what awaits the Ukrainians who went to this country for treatment, in particular, left for an organ transplant operation, Enin said that Ukrainian diplomats “separately get out of each concrete practical situation.”

“Those people who have already undergone the operation and can be transported to Ukraine will be transported to Ukraine. Those people who are still continuing treatment still continue to be on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Our consuls are in close cooperation with the heads of clinics for transplantation and other medical facilities where our citizens are treated,” the diplomat said.

At the same time, he said the Foreign Ministry is concerned about the “administrative and repressive measures” carried out by the Belarusian government over the past few months and urged Ukrainians to be more careful when planning trips to Belarus.

“Before traveling through the territory of Belarus, be careful and familiarize yourself with the materials [regarding the prohibitions in force in Belarus] that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disseminates through its own resources in social networks,” Enin said.

He also said, despite the cessation of air communication with Belarus and the ban on transit flights of Belarusian airlines through the territory of Ukraine, there is no “blockade of Belarus,” which is said in Minsk, as there is still road and rail communication between the two countries.

“There is a car connection. Regular buses from Minsk, Gomel, Brest and a number of other cities are operating,” the diplomat said.

He said the Ukrainian side always meets the citizens of both countries who come to the territory of our country from Belarus.
