Ukrenergo and Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), the operators of the power grids of Ukraine and Poland, have signed an agreement on the supply of electricity as part of mutual emergency assistance.

According to Ukrenergo’s press service, this is the first such document signed by the company with a transmission system operator, which is a member of ENTSO-E. The agreement provides for the supply of electricity in emergency situations through the interstate 220 kV Dobrotvir-Zamosc overhead power grid.

“The agreement regulates the exchange of electricity between the operators to prevent or eliminate emergencies in the energy systems, defines its mechanisms and procedure, conditions for the provision of assistance,” Ukrenergo explains.

Emergency assistance from the neighboring countries is provided in cases when the measures taken and reserves are not enough to avoid the threat or the need to limit energy supply to consumers. It is necessary to maintain the integrity of the energy system and is provided through interstate power grids.

The signing of agreements on mutual emergency assistance with the bordering countries is provided for by the general ENTSO-E rules to create additional backup mechanisms to help ensure the reliability of energy systems.
