The investigation into the Sept. 25 crash of an An-26 military plane near Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region, has revealed gross violations in the performance of flight tasks and in the organization of flights, according to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Oleh Urusky, who heads the commission investigating the plane crash.
UkrInform: Probe into An-26 plane crash revealed gross violations
First responders and experts work on the site of the Antonov An-26 transport aircraft crash at Chuhuiv military air base 30 kilometers southeast of Kharkiv on Sept. 25, 2020. The plane crashed while landing, killing 26 out of 27 people on board, most of them cadets of Kharkiv Air Force Institute. The tragedy cast light on the state of Ukraine’s air force. The An-26 that crashed was in service for over 43 years. Some planes operated by the air force are even older than that. With Ukraine having a generous defense budget, the majority of which is spent in secrecy, many suspect that corruption is behind the destitute state of Ukraine’s air force.
