JSC Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) is working on the creation of a new application for the purchase of electronic train tickets, which is scheduled to be launched in 2021.

In addition to ordinary tickets, it will be possible to buy travel documents for privileged categories of passengers using the new application. The app will be available for Android and iOS, the press service of UZ reported with reference to director of information technology of the company Volodymyr Reznyk.

In addition, UZ plans to replace the devices that are currently used to control and validate electronic tickets with regular smartphones.

“An ordinary smartphone allows you to read a QR code, which confirms the legitimacy of a ticket and controls train passengers. At the same time, an ordinary smartphone is several times cheaper than the mobile document control terminals that are now used on trains. To validate electronic tickets, a corresponding mobile application has already been developed for the operating Android system, which is currently being tested in real use,” said Reznyk.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, 2 million tickets have been purchased online since the beginning of 2021, which is 74% of the total volume of sold travel documents.
