You're reading: UN in Ukraine calls on law enforcers to conduct investigation into attacks on activists in Ukraine

The United Nations in Ukraine condemns the attack on civil activist Kateryna Handziuk and other activists and call on the government and law-enforcement agencies to conduct a transparent, comprehensive and effective investigation into the attacks.

“The United Nations in Ukraine condemns the appalling attack on a civil activist Kateryna Handziuk… The United Nations in Ukraine is also closely following up other recent attacks on civil activists in Ukraine. All cases have been or will be documented and analyzed by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine,” the United Nations in Ukraine reported on its website.

“We call on the government and law-enforcement agencies to conduct a transparent, comprehensive and effective investigation into the attack on Kateryna, and into all such cases,” the United Nations in Ukraine said.

As reported, an unidentified man splashed acid onto Kherson City Council employee Handziuk in Kherson early on July 31. She was taken to the hospital. The attacker was detained.

Vitaliy Oleshko, a member of the Donbas Volunteer Battalion (nom de guerre “Sarmat”), Donbas war veteran, local activist, was shot dead in the center of Berdiansk on July 31. The police detained four suspects in his murder.

On August 2, in Odesa region, an unknown man in a truck rammed a car, in which were activist Hryhoriy Kozma and Head of the Odesa city organization of Popular Rukh of Ukraine Mykhailo Kuzakon. They did not suffer.

On the same day, in Kamianske (Dnipropetrovsk region) a minibus exploded, badly injuring Deputy of the Kamianske City Council from the Batkivschyna party, Director of the municipal enterprise Tramvai Vitaliy Cherniavsky, known for his volunteer activity in the zone of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). He was taken to the hospital.
