The United States Embassy in Ukraine has condemned recent publication of the contact details of Ukrainian journalists and public activists in the internet.

“Independent journalists and civil society activists play a critical role in thriving democracies. We condemn recent efforts to harass journalists, civic activists and others by sharing their personal contact details online,” the embassy said on its Twitter page on May 13.

As reported, the National Police of Ukraine discovered the leak of personal data of Ukrainian citizens in an anonymous Telegram channel.

“The unlawfully disclosed personal data is a compilation from the databases of various government departments and non-governmental organizations over various periods of previous years and is not related to the launch of the state-run Diia mobile application,” it said.

The work of the resource that illegally disseminated personal data of citizens has been blocked.

In addition, the media reported that an anonymous Telegram channel “The Secret of a Deputy” made public the phone number of a range of Ukrainian journalists, including Editor-in-Chief of the Schemes: Corruption in Detail program Natalia Sedletska and others.
