The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine expresses concern over reports of an attack on a synagogue in Mariupol on July 28, and calls on law enforcement officers to promptly and thoroughly investigate the incident.

“We are deeply concerned by reports of an attack yesterday on a Mariupol synagogue. We hope to see a prompt and thorough investigation. We stand with the people of Ukraine against anti-Semitism in any form,” it said on Twitter on July 29.

As reported, on July 28 in Mariupol, an unknown person wearing a mask with an ax in his hands burst into the territory of a prayer house in the central district and beat a 51-year-old guard. A woman contacted the police with a report that a stranger had beaten a synagogue guard and escaped from the scene.
