The U.S. embassy in Kyiv says it will continue providing scheduled passport and visa services amid ‘the U.S. government shutdown’ – a situation, which occurs when Congress fails to pass, or the U.S. Chief Executive refuses to sign, appropriations legislation funding federal government operations and agencies.

“At this time, scheduled passport and visas services in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits,” the U.S. Embassy said on  December 26.

Yet, it said it will not update its Facebook account until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information.

“For information on our services and operating status, visit travel.state.gov,” the Embassy said.

The government shutdown was announced on December 22 after Democrats had refused to meet U.S. President Donald Trump’s demands to allocate $5 billion for his long-promised wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The White House did not rule out that the shutdown may last at least until January 3 when a new Congress starts work.
