Holos (Voice) Party leader and musician Svyatoslav Vakarchuk has said his party would take part in the next parliamentary elections and demands changing the election system before the elections to a proportional one with open party lists.
“The Holos Party will participate in the next elections to parliament whenever they take place,” the party’s press service said on May 20, citing Vakarchuk.
Holos believes that Ukraine needs a proportional election system with open lists, for a new kind of politics, one that is free from corruption, and new election legislations, the press service said.
“… Elections according to the old rules is a continuation of the old politics controlled by the oligarchical elite. It’s a continuation of old-style corruption where places in party lists are sold, the voter is trampled and where buying votes and administrative resources are used majoritarian districts,” the press service said, citing Vakarchuk.
“We must change the old election system, which has been left to us since the times of [ex-Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych.
“The new election system is responsibility of each deputy before voters. It’s impossible to bring to parliament party representatives, who have lost their reputation and trust. [In the new system] voter interests trump the interests of politicians. That should be the new policy,” he said.
