Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova held a meeting with Ukraine’s international partners, where she discussed the issue of organizing the work of the committee for conducting a competition for holding administrative positions in the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

“The most important thing for us is to make the process of competition for the post of head of the SAPO transparent, public and understandable both for the Ukrainian society and for the international partners of our state. The task of the Prosecutor General’s Office is to act clearly within the law, to ensure this process at a high level, without interfering by anyone in the work of the committee. Ukraine desperately needs a truly independent and professional head of the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office,” Venediktova said.

As reported on the PGO website on Friday, the meeting was attended by Director of International Law Enforcement Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Sarah Langenkamp, Sector Manager for Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption with the EU Delegation to Ukraine Manfredas Limantas, Head of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative Eka Tkeshelashvili, Country Director of the International Development Law Organization Levan Duchidze, and Program Coordinator and Legal Adviser of the Law Enforcement Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine Olena Kustova.

Venediktova also said that during the competition, not only the head of the SAPO should be selected, but also his first deputy and deputy head of the department. The competition will be held by a competition committee, which includes four people, determined by the Council of Prosecutors of Ukraine, and seven people, determined by the Verkhovna Rada.

The international partners said that, for their part, they are ready to provide all the necessary support and assistance.
