A number of veteran organizations have demanded that a repeat competition be held for the post of head of the State Service for War Veterans and supported the creation of the Ministry for Veterans.

“We want a transparent and open competition and cancellation of the results of the previous competition. We demand that the opinions of the leaders of veterans’ movements be taken into account in the new competition,” Ihor Mario, head of NGO Kyiv City Union of Donbas war Veterans, said at a briefing in Kyiv on February 1.

The head of the council of NGO Union of Donbas war Veterans (Kharkiv region), Mykola Sapelkin, in turn, stressed the need to create a separate Ministry for Veterans.

“Today there are more than 300,000 Donbas war participants in Ukraine. The funds allocated by the authorities are being distributed between different departments and services. It would be logical to create a separate Ministry for War Veterans, as is the case in the United States and Canada, and to appoint war participants for posts in this ministry,” he said.
