U.S. President Joe Biden announced on May 6 that $100 million more in military aid is being provided to Ukraine.
The White House statement says deliveries will include more “artillery munitions, radars, and other equipment.
The new assistance means that Biden has about $150 million left on which to draw on from the Pentagon’s stockpile of weapons. He has asked Congress to approve $33 billion more in additional funding for Ukraine.
Since Feb. 24, when Kremlin tyrant Vladimir Putin ordered an all-out invasion of the country, Washington has provided more than $3.6 billion in various forms of military, humanitarian and financial assistance.
Russia has waged an unprovoked war against Ukraine since 2014 in what is the European continent’s biggest conflict since World War II.
On May 9, Biden is expected to sign a lend-lease act for Ukraine that will simplify the procedure of providing weapons and other equipment to the war-torn country.
Kyiv has asked for heavier weapons like long-range artillery systems and sophisticated air-defense systems to withstand Russia’s onslaught.
So far, Ukraine’s military estimates that more than 24,000 Russian servicemen have been killed in the renewed invasion.
