Rescuers continue battling wildfires in several forestry areas in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, the press service of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said.
“As of 7:00 p.m. on April 20, units of the State Emergency Service were helping put out the fires in the territory of the Korohodsky, Lubiansky, Paryshivsky, Dytiatkivsky and Denysovetsky forestry areas in the exclusion and unconditional (mandatory) resettlement zone. These efforts are mainly focusing on containing three fires (in the village of Rozsokha, Kryva Hora and Rudki – Buriakivka), where tree stumps, remains of trees and one peat bog continue smoldering in fire-stricken places,” the service said on its website on April 21 morning.
Heavy engineering hardware provided by the State Emergency Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine is being used in efforts to build firebreaks. A total of 515 kilometers of fire lines have already been created.
As many as 1,343 people and 299 units of hardware are taking part in the firefighting efforts.
