You're reading: World Bank president assures Sytnyk of supporting NABU’s efforts to fight corruption in Ukraine

The newly created Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies already have achievements in exposing corruption and combating it, therefore, these bodies need support in order to further implement the anti-corruption reform in Ukraine, World Bank (WB) President Jim Yong Kim said.

The World Bank supports the efforts of NABU in the fight against corruption, the press service of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine quoted the WB president as saying during his meeting with NABU Director Artem Sytnyk, which took place in the framework of the Global Forum on Asset Recovery, which took place in Washington from Dec. 4 until Dec. 6.

It is noted that during the meeting the parties discussed the pressure exerted on the NABU, the course of investigations to expose corruption among high officials and the prospects for the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine.

At the same time, the press service of NABU reminded that during his last visit to Ukraine in Nov. 2017, Jim Yong Kim noted that the creation of the Anti-Corruption Court was critical for the further growth of the Ukrainian economy and, moreover, its creation was one of the conditions for Ukraine’s cooperation with the International Monetary Fund.
