Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy has spoken in favor of adopting a new law on elections to the Verkhovna Rada.

Zelenskiy said at a meeting with European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn that he has started a dialogue with the country’s parliament, stressing the need to adopt a new law on parliamentary elections that would help update Ukraine’s policy.

Zelensky’s press service shared details of the meeting with Interfax-Ukraine.

At the start of the meeting, Zelenskiy assured Hahn that Ukraine’s choice in favor of integration with Europe remains unchanged.

“Our European choice has no alternative, and I, as the guarantor of the Constitution, will defend the path citizens of Ukraine chose at the elections,” he said.

The sides also discussed the conflict in the east of Ukraine.

“Our goal is to achieve a ceasefire,” Zelenskiy said.
