Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is confident that the Ukraine-EU summit scheduled for July 8 will give a new impetus to Ukraine’s relations with the European Union.

“On July 8 of this year, I will be glad to welcome you and all our European partners in Ukraine at the Ukraine-EU summit. This will be an important opportunity to give a new powerful impetus to the development of our relations,” he said at a joint briefing with European Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels on June 5.

Zelenskiy stressed that not only Ukraine needs the EU as a guarantor of its success as an independent and successful state, but also the EU needs “democratic, friendly, stable, strong” Ukraine.

“I am convinced that we must set ambitious goals and work together towards their achievement,” he said.

In turn, Tusk noted that he had discussed with Zelenskiy the upcoming Ukraine-EU summit, which would determine priorities for relations between the parties for the coming year. “Our joint decision is to hold a summit as planned, and we agreed to remain in close contact with the president,” he said.
