Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s representative to the Constitutional Court Fedir Venislavsky has said he hopes the Constitutional Court will rule on the constitutionality of Zelenskiy’s decree on early termination of the powers of the parliament and the appointment of early parliamentary elections in less than 30 days.

“The law on the Constitutional Court gives a month to make a decision on this issue. That is, we can predict that no later than June 29, 2019 there should be a court decision, but we expect it faster. We are not interested in delaying the process in any way,” Venislavsky told reporters during a recess at the court on Tuesday.

He also stated that he could not foresee the court declaring Zelenskiy’s decree unconstitutional.

“We preclude this possibility,” he said, adding “I am convinced that there are no grounds for declaring the president’s decree unconstitutional.”

Venislavsky said he does not expect the court to make a ruling on Tuesday, noting that some hearings of the court on the matter are closed to the public.

The Constitutional Court on Tuesday started considering the case on a constitutional motion of 62 deputies on the constitutionality of Zelenskiy’s decree to dissolve parliament and hold early parliamentary elections.
