You're reading: Zelensky and Erdogan discuss further cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which they raised the issues of cooperation in the field of trade, security and defense, as well as the release of Ukrainian citizens held by Russia, the press service of the president of Ukraine has said.

The president of Turkey congratulated the president of Ukraine and all Ukrainians on the 29th anniversary of independence and noted that he was glad to intensify bilateral contacts that are taking place during the fight against coronavirus. He also congratulated Zelensky on the establishment of a complete and comprehensive ceasefire in Donbas.

“I am grateful that you remembered this. Indeed, today is already 27 days, since then the ceasefire regime has been continuing. During this time, we did not have any combat losses, not a single soldier was injured during the hostilities,” Zelensky said.

The president of Ukraine also thanked his Turkish counterpart for the continued support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The parties favorably noted the restoration of air traffic between the two countries and the creation of opportunities for tourist travel.

Zelensky congratulated Erdogan on the discovery of natural gas deposits on the Turkish Black Sea coast, the development of which will contribute to improving the energy security of Turkey and the countries of the region.

The heads of state discussed the situation with the spread of coronavirus and agreed to continue coordinating efforts in the fight against the pandemic and its consequences.

The sides discussed the progress in the implementation of previous agreements on the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, in particular the construction of highways in Ukraine, as well as housing for 500 families of internally displaced persons in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
