Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky will not travel to Belarus in October to attend the two countries’ third regional forum, which was due to be held in Grodno on Oct. 8-9.

“The Ukrainian president’s visit to Belarus which was planned in October has been cancelled. Matters relating to the regional forum are dependent on very many factors,” Zelensky’s spokesperson Yulia Mendel told Interfax-Ukraine.

Earlier, Belarusian Ambassador to Ukraine Igor Sokol said that Ukraine had asked to postpone the forum.

The first such forum was held in Gomel, Belarus, in October 2018; the second one in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, in October 2019.

Zelensky was invited to attend the forum by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in a formal letter passed by Sokol to a deputy chief of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Ihor Zhovkva, on June 16, 2020.
