You're reading: Zelensky: Constitutional Court influenced by political, business groups

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky says that the Constitutional Court, when deciding on anti-corruption reforms, reform of the land and languages, was influenced by various political and business groups.

“I blocked the actions of the Constitutional Court, which I consider unlawful. Not only me, but by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council. Still, I did not do it by myself, but I put it into effect with my signature,” he said on June 24 in an interview with journalist Natalia Moseichuk, which was published on 1 + 1 TV channel.

Speaking about chairman of the Constitutional Court Tupytsky, Zelensky expressed the opinion that “he was subjectized, I believe, by different financial levers of different groups, in particular, political and business groups that still accompany his life and work”.

According to Zelensky, he met with Tupytsky and during the meeting “he raised various issues. You can agree with these issues somewhere, you can say that these are imperfect bills, but one thing is to change them with some kind of amendments, but not to break the system completely.”

Speaking about judicial reform, Zelensky said that “the reset of the entire judicial system is, vasically, two important laws – the High Qualification Commission of Judges and the High Council of Justice.”
