Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has honored Ukrainian servicemen who died on June 14, 2014, during the period of Russian aggression, including 40 paratroopers and nine crew members of an Il-76 military transport aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force that was shot down over Luhansk.

According to a report posted on the website of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and the ministry leadership, officers and employees of structural units of the Defense Ministry, the General Staff, servicemen of the Kyiv garrison, relatives and friends took part in the event.

On June 14, the bell sounded 54 times in the Memorial Hall of the Defenders of Ukraine on the territory of the Defense Ministry. Except those who died in 2014, the memory of those killed in different years of Russian aggression was also honored.

An Il-76 military transport aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force was shot down from an anti-aircraft missile system during a landing at the airfield in Luhansk in the early hours of June 14, 2014. There were 40 Ukrainian servicemen and nine crew members on the aircraft. They all died.

The Security Service of Ukraine said that non-staff employees of the Russian military intelligence (GRU) from the so-called Wagner PMC shot down the airplane according to a decision made in the Kremlin.
