President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky says that the format of the new school year start depends on the situation with COVID-19, which is still difficult to predict, and hopes that there will be no second wave of the epidemic in Ukraine.

“I can’t tell you yet. You see what’s happening with COVID-19. It’s very difficult to control it completely all over the world, and Ukraine is no exception. We don’t have a second wave yet, to be honest. But everyone needs to be careful, the number of patients increase due to carelessness. We hope there will be no second wave, and children will be able to study in normal social environment and communicate as usual,” he told reporters in Volyn region on Thursday.

Zelensky said that Ukraine is not yet technically ready for transition to distance learning. “Because for distance learning, we need 3G and 4G in the whole country. According to the plan of Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, we have started to improve communication quality from Zakarpattia region on July 1, and it will spread up to the east of Ukraine,” he said.
