You're reading: Zelensky signs law on strengthening social guarantees for people with disabilities

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law amending some laws of Ukraine to increase social guarantees for people with disabilities and children with disabilities (1664-IX), which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on July 15.

According to the President’s Office press service, this document strengthens the social protection of people with disabilities.

“In particular, according to the law, such people and persons accompanying them have the right to priority service at any box office, as well as at all enterprises, institutions and organizations that provide services to the public,” the statement said on August 3.

It notes that people with disabilities who go for treatment and have the relevant documents, persons with group I disabilities and persons accompanying them, have the right to priority crossing of the state border of Ukraine and entry/exit checkpoints to temporary occupied territories (no more than once a week in one direction).

“Also, adults and children with disabilities will be able to receive rehabilitation assistance through administrative and economic sanctions and fines received by the state budget and used by the Social Protection Fund for the Disabled,” the President’s Office said.

The message says that the law comes into force on the day following the day of its publication.
