You're reading: Zelensky signs sanctions in relation to businessmen Firtash, Fuks

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has approved by decree the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the introduction of personal sanctions against Ukrainian and Russian businessmen Dmytro Firtash and Pavlo Fuks, the press service of the head of state said.

“To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated June 18, 2021 ‘On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions),'” the document says.

In total, on the proposal of the Security Service of Ukraine, sanctions were imposed against 538 individuals and 540 legal entities.

Corresponding decree No. 266/2021 of June 24 was published on the website of the Ukrainian president and comes into force on the day of its promulgation.

The package of sanctions against Fuks and Firtash includes blocking assets, restricting trade operations, completely stopping the transit of resources, flights and transportation through the territory of Ukraine, preventing the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine, suspension of the fulfillment of economic and financial obligations, cancellation or suspension of special permits for the use of subsoil.

In addition, the prohibition of participation in the privatization and lease of state property, a complete ban on the entry of foreign non-military ships and warships to the territorial sea of Ukraine, a ban on the issuance of permits and licenses of the National Bank of Ukraine, the termination of the issuance of permits and licenses for the import into Ukraine or export from Ukraine of foreign currency values and restrictions on the issue of cash on payment cards, a ban on the transfer of technology, rights to intellectual property and other sanctions that comply with the principles of their application established by the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions.”

Also, by the decision of the NSDC, Fuks and Firtash are deprived of state awards of Ukraine, unlike MP Viktor Medvedchuk, to whom this type of sanctions was not applied.

The sanctions are imposed for a period of three years.
