A high-level meeting is scheduled for September 28 to mark the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

The General Assembly is the main advisory body to the United Nations. It includes representatives of all member states of the Organization having one vote each. Decisions on important issues, such as peace and security or the admission of new members, require a two-thirds majority. In 1946, the General Assembly consisted of 51 states, now the figure is 193.
