Ukraine is doing its best to maintain ceasefire and save the lives of soldiers. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said this while speaking to the media in Donetsk region.

“We are fighting to ensure that this regime is not violated… If everything depended only on our side, I am sure it would be real ceasefire. We would move on to the next steps, to the next stages of the war,” Zelensky noted.

He said that many questions and problems arise in the process of preserving ceasefire, the president’s press service reported on August 6.

“We pray to God and are grateful to our military. The most important thing we want is to maintain this ceasefire. Every day simply not to lose our servicemen. For us it is very important. I can’t guarantee anything, but I’ll tell you – we do our best, we do a lot of things both in Ukraine and at meetings in the Minsk format and in the videoconference of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG). We will continue to keep our fingers crossed,” the President said.

Zelensky also informed that several candidates were considered for the post of Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group. He noted that Leonid Kravchuk is a wise and educated person who has credibility throughout Ukraine.

“This is very important for the chairman of the Ukrainian group in the TCG. He is an experienced person,” the Head of State said, explaining why Leonid Kravchuk was appointed Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG.

Zelensky once again thanked Leonid Kuchma for his work as the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG.

The president said that former Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitold Fokin will also work as part of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG.

“We have a fairly strong group. I see now growth in the number of negotiations and meetings,” Zelensky said.

For his part, Chairman of the Donetsk Regional Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko briefed the President about the project to upgrade the facilities of municipal enterprise Voda Donbasu (Water of Donbas). He said that the duration of the upgrade is designed for at least three years. Now work is underway to replace the water supply systems.

Zelensky expressed the conviction that the upgrade work will be completed as scheduled.

“I am sure that within three years, under the chairmanship of the head of the regional administration with our international partners, we will do all this,” the president said.

He added that the main task in this matter is the modernization of underground water pipelines.

“Our colleagues from Switzerland say that they have never seen such an enterprise as Voda Donbasu, a very large enterprise. When it is upgraded, the most important thing is that we do not need anything, that there is clean drinking water for our people,” Zelensky said.
