You're reading: Zelensky waiting for decisions after growth of COVID-19 cases

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is waiting for the forecasts and decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers in relation to the increase in the number of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country and demanded that crowded places are thoroughly checked, the press service of the Office of the President has reported.

“For the third day, we have a significantly higher number of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases. I asked to determine the cause and I am waiting for the forecasts and decisions from you,” Zelensky said during a video call with the participation of the Cabinet of Ministers and law enforcement agencies on June 13.

Zelensky expressed concern about the large number of new COVID-19 cases. In turn, Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said that the increased number of hospitalized with signs of COVID-19 infection, the number of pneumonia and the increase in detected COVID-19 cases are of concern.

“There is no reason to panic, but there are “bells” that require reaction,” Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal added and suggested deciding on a model to toughen control over adaptive lockdown measures.

“We need to carefully check the stores, markets, public transport – places where there can be crowds. The responsibility for these crowds is on institutions and platforms that should ensure safety prescribed by the Cabinet of Ministers,” Zelensky said.

Shmygal said that international experience shows the effectiveness of administrative responsibility.
