President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has terminated the powers of Igor Smelyansky as a member of the supervisory board of the state concern Ukroboronprom.

According to the website of the head of state, the president signed corresponding decree No. 424/2020 on Oct. 6.

As reported, Smelyansky, who holds the post of director general of JSC Ukrposhta, asked Zelensky to remove him from the Ukroboronprom supervisory board. He posted the statement of the request, dated August 14, on his Facebook page.

“I hope that Ukrposhta will soon sign a multi-million dollars (in euros) investment deal with the leading international financial institutions. According to their rules, they cannot do this with persons involved in the defense industry. Therefore, today I’ve asked the president of Ukraine to withdraw me from the supervisory board [of Ukroboronprom],” Smelyansky explained his decision.

Zelensky appointed his assistant Andriy Yermak and Ukrposhta CEO Smelyansky as members of the Ukroboronprom supervisory board on Oct. 7, 2019.

Ukrposhta expects in October to sign an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on attracting a loan of 100 million euros for the construction of new sorting centers.
