President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky’s decree on the enactment of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the application of sanctions against 112.Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK TV channels has been appealed in the Supreme Court.

“Today, on Feb. 4, 2021, the Administrative Court of Cassation as part of the Supreme Court received two claims of citizens: they dispute presidential decree of Feb. 2, 2021 No. 43/2021 ‘On the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated Feb. 2, 2021 ‘On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions).’ According to Appendix 2 to the NSDC decision, personal sanctions were applied to a number of TV channels,” the website of Judicial Power of Ukraine reports.

The claims, which were submitted to the court, were assigned case registration numbers – No. 9901/22/21 and No. 9901/23/21.

As reported, Zelensky on Feb. 2 enforced a decision by the National Security and Defense Council effectively blocking the operations of the television channels 112, NewsOne, and ZiK, which are believed to be associated with Viktor Medvedchuk, one of the leaders of the Opposition Platform – For Life party.

According to the decision, personal special economic and other restrictive measures will be applied, in particular, to Taras Kozak and such legal entities as Ariadna TV LLC, Novy Format TV LLC, TV Vybor LLC, 112-TV TV and Radio Company LLC, Lider TV LLC, Partner TV LLC, News 24 Hours LLC, and New Communications LLC.
