Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has congratulated Ukraine’s Jewish community and everyone who celebrates Rosh Hashanah on the holiday.

“Accept my cordial congratulations on the occasion of the new year of 5781. For you, these days have always been a time for taking stock of life, self-analysis, and spiritual outlook on the coming year. We hope that it will be easier than the outgoing one for all of us,” Zelensky said on Facebook on Sept. 18.

For people’s health and safety, people being the ultimate value, Ukraine has had to limit mass gatherings, including as part of the traditional celebrations of this festival, he said.

“But in Kyiv, Dnipro, Uman, Jerusalem, New York, and elsewhere on our planet, the Jewish people are praying for peace and the well-being of all humankind,” Zelensky said.

The president thanked everyone for their understanding and cooperation on these important issues of public safety.

“We believe that together we will be able to overcome all the challenges that face us, and next year we will return to the habitual rhythm of life. I wish each and every one of you a happy and sweet New Year!” Zelensky said.
