Russia-backed separatists are firing at Ukrainian forces in the vicinity of the city of Maryinka in Donetsk region, one of the mines fell on destroyed a residential house in the city, Head of Donetsk Regional Military and Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky has said.

“Maryinka again is rocked by explosions: orcs are firing mines at the Ukrainian military positions, one of them fell in the housing block at 174 Zhovtneva Street and destroyed a house. Fortunately, there are no civilian casualties,” Zhebrivsky wrote on his Facebook page on October 2.

Photographs attached to the message show a small building with an attic which has been badly damaged. The attic has been completely burnt out, only a frame remains. A greenhouse next to it has been also destroyed.

“Head of Maryinka District State Administration told me the shelling continues, single explosions could be heard on the outskirts of the city,” Zhebrivsky said.

For its part, the Ukrainian side of the Joint Center for the Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire has called the bombing of Maryinka “another terrorist attack against by illegal armed groups against civilians.”

“On October 2 of this year, around 10:30 am, residential houses in Maryinka, Donetsk region, came under fire by the illegal armed formations of the ORDO (uncontrolled areas of Donetsk region). Residential houses were shelled from hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers. A residential building at 156 Zhovtneva Street was hit, its roof caught fire, windows and walls were damaged,” the Ukrainian side of the JCCC wrote on the Facebook page of the press center of the Ukrainian Military on October 2.

An observation team of the Ukrainian side of the JCCC is working at the site. Information on other buildings is being clarified.
