Jeff Sessions, US attorney-general, was interviewed by the office of Robert Mueller last week as the special counsel’s probe into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow led to the first known questioning of a Trump cabinet member.
Mr Sessions has angered President Trump by recusing himself from matters related to the 2016 election, leaving him with no control over Mr Mueller, who was appointed by deputy attorney-general Rod Rosenstein in May 2017.
