You're reading: Georgia imposes quarantine on money

The National Bank of Georgia on March 13 announced a decision to put all cash coming from circulation into special storage facilities for a period of 14 days due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

“The cash money coming from circulation will be put into cash centers and will be stored separately in a special place for 14 days. They will be removed only after this period ends,” the National Bank of Georgia said in a statement.

National Bank also recommended that citizens temporarily not use cash, if they can, and make non-cash payments.

According to the Georgian Health Ministry, 25 cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new virus, have now been confirmed in the country.
