Georgian State Minister for European Integration David Bakradze will be appointed Georgia’s ambassador to the United States following parliamentary elections in October 2016, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at a meeting of the European Union integration commission on Friday.
Kvirikashvili thanked current Ambassador to the U.S. Archil Gegeshidze for his work.
In giving an interview this past summer, Gegeshidze had made a controversial remark causing a stir, having claimed that there were pro-Russian forces in the Georgian leadership. He was summoned to the Foreign Ministry for explanations, after which he told journalists that his words had been misreported and he was continuing his ambassadorial duties.
