Deployment of a U.S. military base in Georgia is crucial for the country, Georgian Parliament Speaker, Republican Party leader David Usupashvili said.

“Before Georgia’s membership in NATO becomes real, Georgia should ensure deployment of a military base of the United States or another NATO member country in its territory. This task is crucial for security and defense of our country,” Usupashvili said during the Archevani (Choice) program aired by the Rustavi-2 television channel late on Tuesday night.

Speaking of his party’s program in the October 8 parliamentary elections in Georgia, he said the Republican Party was the one that knew “how to build a European country.”

The Republican Party was part of the Georgian Dream coalition during previous parliamentary elections in Georgia; it decided to act on its own in the upcoming elections.
