TBILISI – The attempt to storm the Georgian parliament in late June and the insulting statements about the Russian leadership made on the TV channel Rustavi 2 are “links in the same chain” in the wish of the party United National Movement founded by Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to destabilize the country, Giorgi Volsky of Georgia’s ruling party Georgian Dream said.

“The attempt to storm the parliament and yesterday’s statement on Rustavi 2 are links in the same chain. This is a direct attack on the national interests of Georgia. It’s part of the war Mikheil Saakashvili and his party United National Movement have waged against the people of Georgia for many years,” Volsky told a briefing on July 8.

“Yesterday’s insulting speech by the anchor of Rustavi 2 television about the Russian leader is one of the segments of the destabilization and civil conflict strategy started in Georgia,” Volsky said.

Georgian Dream is calling on the law enforcement agencies to determine when and how the implementation of the strategy of destabilization, which puts Georgia at risk of grave economic consequences, began in the country, the representative of the ruling party said.

TV host Giorgi Gabunia made statements insulting the Russian president on a live program on the opposition Rustavi 2 television on July 7.
