NUR-SULTAN – Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a decree ratifying the Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare, the presidential press service said on Feb. 15.

As reported earlier with a reference to the conclusion of the relevant committee of the Majlis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament, ratification of the protocol is important for upholding international regulations banning the use of biological and chemical weapons.

“Kazakhstan’s accession to the Geneva Protocol will demonstrate to the international community Kazakhstan’s commitment to commonly recognized international standards and values,” it said.

The United Nations General Assembly has passed a number of resolutions calling on countries to adopt and ratify the Geneva Protocol.
