According to an online Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on April 27, an all-time high of 73% of Americans favors supplying arms to embattled Ukraine, which is 5% more than the result from a similar survey in late March.
A solid majority of respondents from both the Democrat and Republican camps back the sanctions against Russia and are willing to support candidates who promise military aid to Ukraine in the upcoming midterm elections to Congress.
The results of the two-day poll come after a meeting of over 40 ministers of defense at the German Ramstein Air Base on April 26. At the meeting, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin promised to move heaven and earth to deliver the necessary weapons to Ukraine.
With tensions worsening between Washington and Moscow, around half of Americans — including six in 10 Democrats and nearly half of Republicans – fear that Russia could tamper with the midterm elections set to take place on Nov. 8 by spreading misinformation and propaganda.
Another Reuters/Ipsos poll from April 26 shows that only 42% of Americans approve of Biden’s overall performance as president – almost the lowest level of his presidency. That said, respondents to the first poll rate his response to Russia’s war in Ukraine higher than his handling of the economy and high energy prices.
Both Reuters/Ipsos polls were conducted in English in all parts of the U.S. The sample consisted of 1,005 adults and had credible margins of error of about 4%
