Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s frequent calls to Putin, saying: “It is necessary to fight criminals, not to negotiate” with them.

On April 4 Mateusz Morawiecki harshly criticized Macron for continuing to try to persuade Vladimir Putin to end the war with Ukraine through diplomacy.

“What have you achieved, President Macron? How many times have you negotiated with Putin? Have you stopped any action that has taken place? No one has negotiated with Hitler. Would you negotiate with Hitler, with Stalin, and with Pol Pot? ” Morawiecki asked rhetorically at a press conference.

Drawing attention to the brutal killings of civilians in towns near Kyiv that had been occupied by Russian troops, the head of the Polish government stressed that

Morawiecki called on European Union leaders to take measures to stop Russia’s military machine and confiscate Russian assets in the West and stop oil and gas imports from Russia around the world. He urged that the EU impose a new package of sanctions immediately and include all members of the United Russia party.

Macron’s office defended his actions saying it is important for Putin to understand the demands of Western countries.

“From the onset, the president has used all available means to make Putin stop the war: massive sanctions, support to Ukraine, demands made directly to President Putin during their calls,” a French presidential official said, Reuters reported.
