Former Georgian President and citizen of Ukraine Mikhail Saakashvili has been transferred to a civilian clinic following the deterioration of his health condition.
Saakashivili, serving a prison term in the Rustavi penitentiary, was found suffering from protein starvation by the team of doctors in charge of monitoring his health after his long hunger strike.
Ukraine Ombudswoman Mrs. Lyudmila Denisova in April called on the Georgian authorities to provide Mikheil Saakashvili with adequate medical care and to comply with international law – in particular, Article 3 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms”, and reminded them of the institutional role of Mikhail Saakashvili in Ukraine, and his will to be back in Ukraine and help against Russian aggression.
