The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 has spent barely 20 weeks in the human population. But, like a B-movie invader from another planet, it has wasted no time bringing our world to a standstill. At high magnification, the virus even looks like an alien device – a spherical orb with knobby protrusions. The design is both insidious and ingenious.
