Mark Adomanis: The US should not try to pick winners and losers in Russia’s political system
A bus waits to cross a checkpoint manned by Ukrainian troops near the eastern Ukrainian city of Debaltseve in the Luhansk Oblast on August 1, 2014.
Ben Judah recently wrote a piece for Politico titled “The End of Vladimir Putin: Could the war in Ukraine bring down the Kremlin?” Judah and I have had our differences, but the piece strikes me as a generally reasonable one. I wouldn’t go as far as Judah has in predicting immanent doom for the current system, but through concentrated propaganda attacks on the “ fascist junta” in Kyiv and repeated rhetorical support for the pro-Russian separatist forces (who now look as if they are on the verge of defeat) Putin really has caused himself a serious problem.
