Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a government resolution that expands bans on both exports and imports with Ukraine.
Starting on June 1, Russia will ban the export of crude oil, oil products and coal to Ukraine, as well as the import of certain Ukrainian goods, Medvedev said on live on television on April 18.
“We are expanding the ban on the import into Russia of certain types of goods. This measure will affect Ukrainian production in mechanical engineering, light industry (and) metalworking, the value of which for the last year amounted to almost $250 million,” said Medvedev.
He added that a special authorization would be required in order to export any good falling into this newly extended list.
Russia had already imposed an embargo on the import of over 50 industrial and agricultural products from Ukraine according to a decree published by the Russian government on Dec. 29.
These measures came in retaliation to Ukrainian sanctions on Russia that were recently updated and prolonged until 2020 on Dec. 27, 2018.
