The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Ukraine on March 3. On March 12, the government introduced a nationwide quarantine, initially for three weeks, that was prolonged several times. In late May, the country began to reopen: As of May 25, metro systems, most of the public transport was relaunched, small and medium-size shops and restaurants’ summer terraces reopened.

The Ukrainian government said that the ratio of the confirmed cases to the number of tests performed is one of the key benchmarks it will be watching when considering easing the quarantine restrictions.
About one-third of the COVID-19 patients in Ukraine are hospitalized, while the rest are recommended to self-isolate at home.
