As the Ukrainian electronic music scene blooms, its players continue to win international attention.
Kyiv-based electronic duo Artbat recently won the Breakthrough prize of the year at the international DJ Awards.
The ceremony was held on Sept. 16 in Ibiza, Spain.
“Our first award will have a special spot in our studio,” Artbat wrote on their Facebook page on Sept. 17.
The annual DJ Awards has been held since 1998 “to shine a light on key talents in the industry.”
This year, it awarded artists in 14 categories. In the Breakthrough section, Artbat competed with nine other nominees.
“This duo is on everyone’s radar,” the host of the ceremony said announcing Artbat’s victory.
“It’s a big privilege for us to win this award,” one of the duo’s members, Artur Kryvenko said during the acceptance speech.
Kryvenko and Vitalii Limarenko formed Artbat in 2015. Since then, the duo enjoyed quite a success with their hits topping international charts.
The momentum of their career appeared in March when the duo played a live set on top of the Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The set was organized and streamed live by Cercle, a French online platform that throws parties in unusual spots bringing together the world’s top DJs and electronic music fans. Artbat’s set for Cercle has reached over 4 million views on YouTube.
This summer, the duo toured around the world. They also performed at one of the biggest electronic music festivals, Tomorrowland, in Belgium.
Apart from that, Artbat has recently released an essential mix for the United Kingdom’s BBC Radio 1.
Earlier, Ukrainian DJ Anastasia Topolskaia, better known by her stage name Nastia, has become a resident of the BBC Radio 1.
