Theaters and concert venues have not yet been allowed to reopen by the Ukrainian government, but music lovers have been craving some live music.
On May 30 and 31, the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater held a free concert on its balcony, drawing a crowd to its building on Kontraktova Ploscha. The event was a gift to citizens on the Day of Kyiv, a holiday celebrated on the last weekend of May.
The orchestra and soloists performed Ukrainian folk songs and sung poetry known as “romance.”
The quarantine in Ukraine is set to end on June 22 granted that the infection rate continues to decline. There is still no word from the health authorities how performing arts venues will have to adapt to the sanitary and distancing rules.
