On Nov. 25, Russian ships attacked 3 Ukrainian Navy boats as they tried to cross the Kerch Strait on their way to the Ukrainian port of Mariupol in the Azov Sea. Russia claimed Ukrainian vessels violated “the prohibited area” even though the Azov Sea is in common use by both countries.
In response to the attack, President Petro Poroshenko called for an emergency meeting of the parliament on Nov. 26 to declare martial law in Ukraine.
