Ukraine has registered 13,738 new cases of COVID-19 as of 9 a.m. on April 4.
In the past 24 hours, 258 people have died from the disease, raising the total number of fatalities to 34,333.
Meanwhile, 4,657 people have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to over 1.3 million.
There are currently 364,183 active cases in Ukraine. The country has seen over 1.7 million total cases since the pandemic started.
In the past 24 hours, 5,545 people have been hospitalized with the disease.
The largest numbers of new cases have been recorded in Kharkiv Oblast (1,388), Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (1,143), Odesa Oblast (1,075), Khmelnytskyi Oblast (1,060) and Lviv Oblast (865).
Ukrainian laboratories have carried out 36,311 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, 9,030 antibody tests and 30,197 rapid antigen tests in the past day. Over 8.3 million PCR tests have been conducted in Ukraine since the start of the pandemic.
Starting March 20, Kyiv is under lockdown in response to the rising number of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. (See the lockdown restrictions). From April 5, the capital will close down all schools and kindergartens, as well as public transport, including the subway. The lockdown in Kyiv will run at least through April 16.
Vaccination in Ukraine began on Feb. 24 and by April 3, a total of 290,566 people have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced by India’s Serum Institute. Only two people received two doses of the vaccine so far.
On March 1, the Health Ministry started accepting online and telephone applications from Ukrainians who want to be put on the waiting list for the vaccine.
Ukraine remains in adaptive quarantine, where each oblast is assigned one of four epidemiological levels, depending on the COVID-19 situation there. There are green, yellow, orange and red levels. A red status means that a lockdown will be imposed locally.
Ten regions are in the red zone – Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Chernivtsi Oblast, Odesa Oblast, Zakarpattia Oblast, Sumy Oblast, Lviv Oblast, Mykolaiv Oblast and Cherkasy Oblast.
