You're reading: COVID-19 in Ukraine: 1,658 new infections, 25 dead, 52,870 active cases

Ukraine has identified 1,658 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said during his morning briefing on Aug. 25. As of 9 a.m., there are 52,870 active cases across Ukraine.

In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has recorded 25 deaths from COVID-19 and 346 people have recovered.

The largest numbers of new cases were recorded in Chernivtsi (204), Ivano-Frankivsk (179), Ternopil (158) and Lviv (136) oblasts; the city of Kyiv (130) and Odesa Oblast (112).

During the past 24 hours, laboratories have administered 10,855 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests across the country, Stepanov said during. Additionally, they also carried out 2,571 antibody tests (IFA).

The total number of infections identified in the country since the start of the pandemic stands at 108,415. A total of 53,227 people have recovered and 2,318 have died of the disease.

Since Aug. 3, new rules for Ukraine’s COVID-19 quarantine have come into force: communities, rather than entire regions, are now divided into green, yellow, orange and red levels of severity of the spread of COVID-19. The authorities in districts, cities, and towns will have to tighten or relax quarantine restrictions in accordance with the new categories. The levels are based on four indicators that are reviewed every five days.

Starting from Aug. 24, the new territorial divisions came into effect for the next 14 days. Chernivtsi is now in the red zone, Ternopil, Kharkiv and Lviv are in the orange zone, and Kyiv is the yellow zone. The full list is available here.
